It’s been over a year since I last posted on this blog and the last couple of days I have had thoughts swirling around in my head that I wanted to get out into the world. I know that putting things out into the universe helps us manifest our goals and aspirations. But more than that, I wanted to help other women (around my age) who might be struggling with the same stuff. So here we go.
As women, our age is so often defined based on where we are in our child bearing years. I remember in my mid-30’s I briefly thought I might want to have another baby (thank God that was short lived). I had heard women my age were having kids and they were defined as “geriatric pregnancies”. I’m sorry but what the fu@k! Anyway, I’ll be damned if anyone was going to call me geriatric in my freaking 30’s. So now here I am, about to turn 45 and beginning to experience what I can only explain as the first stages of perimenopause: weight gain, irritability, sleep disturbances, and occasionally hot flashes.
However, it’s really easy to brush all these symptoms off as byproducts of this overly hectic, stressful, and overstimulated existence that I have become accustomed to in the last year. So how do I know what’s hormonal or the result of an exhausting life of a small business owner? Truth is, I don’t necessarily think it matters. I truly believe most of what we experience physically and emotionally (even during life cycle changes like perimenopause and menopause) can be improved or dare I say, fixed, by nutrition, movement, sleep, and rest. And yes, rest and sleep are 2 different things.
When I first sat down to write this, I wanted to start moving in a positive direction in my own wellness journey and what better than to have the ultimate accountability partner, YOU! So welcome back. Let’s do this together. Our journey starts now. Not tomorrow, not next week, not the beginning of the month, but now.
I have very specific goals this month and I want you to hold me accountable:
Play more golf
Spend more time with my husband and daughter
Eat for fuel, not for comfort. This will translate to weight loss.
Get at least 7 hours of sleep a night
Find a daily practice of solitude and reflection and a weekly self-care practice
Daily Movement
Hydrate!
Each day I will start with a morning journaling practice. It won’t take long but it will help me plan my day. Prepare, prepare, prepare!
I truly believe prioritizing these 7 items will result in major improvement in my mental clarity, physical health, and emotional wellbeing. I expect that it will also improve what I believe are the beginning symptoms of perimenopause. Each week, I will bring you my own experiences, observations, and results (good and bad). Each week I will also make any adjustments that need to be made to continue on this path.
I want to hear from you. What are you experiencing right now? What do you need help with and how can we work together to create a life of peace, joy, and calm?
